LITERATURE

“Great Religious Holidays,” Redbook Magazine Dec 1950, vol. 96, No. 2, pg. 58-59 (double page spread). [ill. Advent] The essence of Christmas is life, hope and peace. On the following two pages, famous American painter Jon Corbino has captured this concept for Redbook in his picture of Mary holding the infant Jesus before the world. The artist’s theme is Zacharias’ prophecy from St. Luke, I, 79: “To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Reproduced as Redbook Magazine’s Christmas card, December 1950
